George Jetson and his family could be coming to TV in the near future. TVLine reports that a live-action version of the classic ‘60s series is in development at Warner Bros. Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis is on board as an executive producer, and the studio is in the process of shopping the show to networks.
Beyond the new take on The Jetsons potentially taking place 100 years from the present day, we don’t know much yet about the new series, and Warner Bros. hasn’t commented on the news. However, Family Guy executive producer will reportedly be showrunner. Warner Bros. is also working on an animated Jetsons film, with Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon in talks to direct.
The original series followed George Jetson as he dealt with everyday problems in the future
The Jetsons is still one of Hanna-Barbera’s most beloved properties. Running on ABC from 1962 to 1963, the original series was set in the mid-21st century and followed George Jetson as he and his family dealt with various inconveniences, like appliances breaking down. Given how far television has come since the ‘60s, it could be fun to see how much our vision of the future has changed.
